ood & Fiddles

by Janet King

This year’s Fourth Annual Fiddles and Food on May 16,2010 was a great success. Fran Blazon, our former president, and I outdid ourselves this year. I was visualizing that we’d run out of food and we nearly did. People were lined up at the door of the Canterbury Parish Hall as we added more chairs and tables to accommodate them. We gratefully received donations, again, of ice cream from Tom at Arnie’s Place in Concord; ground Highland beef and a gift certificate from Carol Soule of Miles Smith Farm in Loudon; ice from Tony at the Canterbury Country Store; as many herbs and spices as we needed from Alan Jeanotte from Granite State Natural Foods in Concord; and tons (well, a lot) of breads from Panera in Concord. All of these people continue to be so generous to our cause every year! Please support them and thank them personally if you can.

FOOD: Fran’s lasagna is like no other! She is a master at putting the whole meal for one hundred together. My job was pretty much to agree with everything she suggested in preparing the dinner and helping her carry all of the food to the car and into the church kitchen. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to take home any leftover lasagna either this year! I couldn’t even buy it. It went too fast! I’m so glad that Fran continues to cook her lasagna for this fundraiser. I can’t imagine any other food at the event. Thank you, Fran Blazon!

FIDDLES: After not playing together for about 20 years, Speed the Plough got back together and were able to play for us. They were great! I wish they could have played longer. The band, four very talented musicians playing acoustic music, presented a wonderful after-dinner concert with a professional sound system and lighting. There were some fans cheering in the crowd that have followed Speed the Plough through the years. Check it out online at www. myspace.com/speedtheplough.

We had many great art donations from our members. Again, thank you, everyone, for those! Scholarship winner Jaimie Mudgett addressed the crowd at Fiddles and Food. . Thank you for coming, Jaimie, and speaking to the crowd. I’m hoping that this event will continue to be held for years to come.
